Fair Weather Crafter.

I am a fair weather crafter. I am one of these people who start something, go at it like mad and then drop it like a hot potato. It isn't just with crafts I'm like this with everything. I once had the idea that I would sand down all the doors in our rented house, 5 years later after we had already moved out, my boyfriend and I were frantically sanding and waxing doors before we handed the keys back. 5 years we managed to live in a house without doors, at least it saved us buying a baby monitor.
There have been many different things I have tried in the past and some I got really good at and even made money from.

  1. Knitting. One year everyone got scarves (the only thing I could knit) for Christmas.
  2. Candle making. Messy and there is such a thing as too many candles.
  3. Candle decorating. Was never very good at this, always look as if it was done by a 2 year old.
  4. Card making. (see candle decorating).
  5. Jewellery making. This I enjoyed, but since having my 2 children I haven't done any due to having sharp bits of wire pinging round the living.
  6. Painting. I'm just not that skilled.
  7. Polymer Clay: Too much like play doh.
  8. Cake decorating. I can still whip up a fairly decent birthday cake.
  9. Wine making. At one stage I had a dozen demi johns of wine in my bedroom. It did literally smell like a brewery. In the end I decided it was cheaper, quicker and tastier to pop to the shop and pick up a Blossom Hill.
  10. Fruit liqueur making. I still do this occasionally but it take too long and I'm too impatient to wait.
  11. Glass fusing in a microwave kiln. I loved this, but as with the jewellery it is too unsafe with toddlers around.
  12. Quilt making. In my wardrobe there are lots of little squares of what was James baby clothes waiting to be made into a quilt. I might do it for an 18th birthday present.
  13. Rug making. I have just remembered I still have an uncomplete one upstairs might have a go at it tonight.
  14. Bread Making. This is a fairly recent one. I found a used bread maker on Ebay. So far I have used it about twice, John has used it more than me. I forget to switch it on. Whoops.
My newest thing to start and perhaps not complete is upholstery. I brought a cheap chair off of Ebay and I am going to recover it. I watched a You Tube demo and it seems straight forward. So watch this space, it needs to be finished by Christmas.

Jewellery show

I have got another jewellery craft show on Sunday at the Embassy Centre in Skegness. Looking forward to it, hopefully there will be lots of people.
The last 3 shows have been really good. So good, I need to make some new pieces before Sunday. I made on today using my glass kit. Unfortunately it has an rough side so that is one for me to keep.

Birthday plans.

www.folksy.com/shops/sjjewellery

Hi.
It is going to be a busy week, as I am in school for the next 2 weeks. Forgotten what it is like planning and marking when I get home, instead of feet up, watching telly. Though it all seems to be coming back to me pretty fast.
Birthday plans are starting to come together. Booze stocks are building and invites are nearly all out (sorry if I forgot you).

Slaves.

Hi.
I know it is really bad but I have starter to employ slaves to help me make my jewellery. At the moment I have 2, known as Linda (mum) and Col (sister). They are very cheap and last night Col even brought tea for us.
I'm in a bit of a panic, I have a show on Sunday at Louth and at the last show I sold quite a lot of things. this leave me worry I won't have enough stock. So Col very kindly offered to help. She like threading things, so she made lots of lovely memory bracelets. I made a few pieces to. The one above is one of hers. Pretty. Going to do a few more today. Hopefully the postman will arrive with lots of beads for me.

Car insurance.

www.folksy.com/shops/sjjewellery

Hi.
My car insurance is due in a few days. Every year I have to mess around to find a new insurer because the old one keep putting the price up. I have had a go 3rd party because it is so much cheaper. It means I won't be able to drive other people cars, which I like doing.
Sorry, moan over.
I has been a beautiful few days here is sunny Boston. I managed to get a little bit burnt yesterday. Must remember to buy some sun cream. Was in the garden making some jewellery. I just forgot how long I was out there. Lastest make is in the picture above.
Business cards arrived today, very exciting. Though there is a mistake on them, but John didn't notice so hopefully nobody else will. They have arrive just in time as I have a show on Sunday. Louth classic car and country show.

Dreamaid is a where people can put they wares to sell, so I did. Tonight it was featured on BBC 2 programme with Theo from Dragons Den. As a result I've had 7 sales. So cool. By glancing at the chat forums it looks as if lots of people have done well.
Just putting a few more things on for tomorrow then to bed.
Can't stop grinning.

SJJewellery on dreamaid.com

SJJewellery on dreamaid.com

I have a new shop. this one is a bit different. Everything is free to list and when you sell something a percentage is taken off. It is also going to be on the BBC tomorrow so hopefully it will increase it's followers.

New make.

Again this is one folksy. Link at the top.
Just got in from work. Was hoping for a bit of a lie in today. Was meant to be at work just this afternoon, but at 7.50 got a call from the school asking if I could do the morning as well. Which was fine, except I was still bed. Had to run round like a loony to get ready.
My birthday is more or less sorted out. It is the big 30 this June. Going to have a BBQ/camp/party at my Dads. Just need to sent the invite out. x

Lazy Sunday.

These kits were Johns item, thought I would start by making earring first and see how it goes. I have printed up some instructions and they have enough beads in them to make 2 pairs, with extra so people can make their own designs.

Was going to do some more jewellery making today, but yesterday I went and brought the wrong wire. So going to the garden centre instead. John has this thing at the moment about fruit bushes so it growing them in little pots around the garden and he wants another one. Me I just like going to a ride out and a coffee (we don't have any in the house at the moment ran out). Might nip to Dad and Grandma's as it is near by.
Did ok at the car boot yesterday, though not as good as the first time round. Was pleased as I sold 3 items of jewellery. Though I did manage to brake my display unit. I have posted some more of my stuff on Folksy.

Jewellery and tyres.

It is going to be a rather expensive week for me this week. I needed 3 new tyres and my MOT is due. But on the plus side I have my first proper fete this weekend on Saturday. It is nothing to do with craft shows, but a local high school fete. I'm hoping there will be no other jewellery stalls just me. I'm also trying out different thing. Because I can have a gazebo, it means I have more space. So have been experimenting with candles and lucky dips and make your own earrings. Hopefully will make a bit of money, not sure it will cover the cost of tyres and MOT though.
Also trying to think of some idea what to do for my birthday. It is my big 30 and want it to be special. I would like to go camping. Though not sure whether to do campsite with swimming pool or back to natural campsite. Oddly they both cost the same amount.

Brown and orange glass bracelet

Just been for a night out in Spalding. First time I have been to a club and felt old.
Easter is here and the school have broken up giving me 2 weeks off. I have a plan, going to make a list of all the things I need to do over the hols.

Take photos of jewellery and list them
Weed garden
Plant new flowers in garden
Wash up
Tidy up house
Get all the washing caught up
Make jewellery
Stop spending money on ebay
Make cushions for sofa
Get a list of dates to do shows

Wonder how many I will get done?

New earring make.

I have started to set up a shop through the folksy website. It costs 20p to put items in your own little shop. I only have two, as I was hoping the sun would be shining today so I could take some photo of my jewellery without the flash. Never mind. Will see if this is a better way of selling things, craft show don't seem to be working.

Well that was a waste of time!

Went to Wainfleet Craft fair on Friday, boy was it a waste of time. I made a grand total of -50p. Was really looking forward to it. I had made a load of new stands, using a template I found of the internet, and a new layout. The stand looked so much better than it normally does. I also priced everything up individually this time. But no I sold 1 thing. The red heart necklace (there is a pic of it on my blog somewhere). It was one the most expensive necklace on the stall at £6. There was no one there. I think about in total 30 people looked round from 10 - 3.30. I could have given everything away free and I would have had a full table. This is the 3rd time I have tried Wainfleet I don't think I will be doing it again.
